The Brainification of the Body: The Balance of Tension and Relaxation — That's the True Essence!

Don’t Relax! While many martial arts emphasize the importance of relaxing the body and letting go of tension, Hino Akira boldly asserts, "Don’t relax!"

Instead of simply loosening up, how should the body be used to remain effective in combat? Whether in striking, grappling, or aikido, the focus of this DVD is to teach the essential body mechanics to ensure you never lose when facing an opponent.

Content Overview:

1. Basic Training

  • Foundations of the body's control and coordination in martial arts, focusing on proper movement and structural integrity rather than relaxation alone.

2. Realizing and Understanding in the Interrelationship

  • Emphasizing how to feel and understand the relationship between yourself and your opponent, through real-time awareness and feedback during training.

3. Using the Body Softly

  • Understanding where and when to relax the body in martial arts, and more importantly, where not to relax, especially in aikido, grappling, and striking. The body’s movement should always maintain effective tension in crucial areas.

Instruction: Akira Hino Born in 1948, Akira Hino founded the Hino Martial Arts Institute in the 1990s with a focus on exploring the fundamental nature and training methods of martial arts. His approach extends beyond traditional martial arts, as he has collaborated with renowned choreographer William Forsythe in the realm of dance, integrating martial arts principles into movement education. Hino Sensei conducts martial arts workshops across Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka, as well as internationally, based in France. He also hosts "Meikyou Juku" seminars tailored for medical professionals.
